Ted Hayton –
I operate CW mainly on 40m using a QRPLabs QCX. I have recently installed a very stealth, inverted and sloping L end-fed antenna which is tuned with just under 20 metres of wire. The apex is held by a fibreglass banner pole bolted to the top of an old shed and the pole itself hides within a very overgrown bush/tree encroaching from next door. The short near vertical terminates into a UK Antennas multiband box I couldn’t have made for what it cost. The apex of the antenna is approximately 10m AGL.
This UK Antennas transformer is a game changer. So far, testing on 40m WSPR (using my QCX classic), the results are quite astonishing. I am sure a lot of you are used to these contacts but for me, New Zealand is about as antipodean as it gets!

I bought this last week and put it up at the weekend. It arrived by registered post very quickly and we’ll packaged.
Im very impressed with the build quality of the product and great that it comes complete with all the fixings I needed and would have had to source elsewhere otherwise. It came with wire tension relief fixings, an egg isolator, circular pinch connectors for the wires, plus plastic sleeves and cable ties.
I bought my wire separately as I wanted thin stealthy wire.
I was just about able to get a straight run from the rear of the house 132 feet up the garden. The SWR across the bands is low and I’ve been able to tune up with an ATU on all the other HF bands from 80m to 10m.
Excellent product which I thoroughly recommend

Ordered Sunday, dispatch Monday and delivered Tuesday AM. Installed and working within 30 minutes!
This has replaced my home made 49:1 which always gave a rather high SWR on 10m (2.6:1). I’m pleased
to say that this transformer gives me 1:1 across 10 metres using a 20m long wire bent into to a horizontal “L”.
Very happy to be supporting a small UK business that provides such a good product at a very reasonable price.
Highly recommended.

An excellent 49:1 transformer and extremely well made!

Being an old fart I like to scrutinise everything before I buy it.
This lad does tidy job and for the price you wont find better workmanship.
If I was going to be super critical the mounting Nuts and bolts need to be supplied and fitted otherwise you have to break the warranty seal to fit your own.
Maybe that could be offered as an option.because some want to use this portable.
Another thing I found annoying is that the support eyelet is too small for the supplied wire connectors to fit through.
So it restricts the whole point of Ham radio.
The whole point of ham radio is to experiment so if you have to keep cutting ends off things it makes your product less attractive.
I appreciate quality workmanship when I see it and this lad’s workmanship is top quality.
My scrutiny should in no way deter you from buying his product because I bought it.
It is more intended to throw a few ideas into his head because this world desperately needs engineers like this to be successful.
